November 13, 2017

Everyday we meet new people, chat with friends and family, so you may already be familiar with such discussion and chat.

So i won't be talking about such conversation, I would rather talk about something more serious than just a mere Hello chat.

Have you ever been engaged in these kinds of conversation?

Lets say you're asking for business partnership, of course you need to be good in such conversation as to convincing and giving reasons why you should be partnered with!

It could be any of the following below!
• Convincing someone on something!
• Business Discussion
• An Interview
• Asking For Help
• Talking To A Respected Personality
• Marketing Your Business and any of the other serious conversation you can think of!๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Furthermore, during these kind of conversation, most people are short of words while some just beat around the bush, some feel intimidated, some ain't confident, Some are Shy etc. Sometimes offers maybe turned down because you were not too good with your conversation and your capability is hence doubted.

So to avoid such, you need to learn how to have a brilliant conversation with anyone! And that's exactly what i will be teaching today!

Over the years I have engaged in some serious conversation, some went well while others didn't, I discovered I lacked self confidence and I was gripped by fear, shyness and for that reasons alone my conversation was nothing to write home about!

I however decided to build self confidence and damn fear, and some other than things I did (I'm gonna share). I was able to have brilliant conversation especially with authority persons. I'm gonna be sharing with you the five things I did that help me a lot and achieve my aim of having good conversation.

1.Knowing The Key Points In A Discussion

This was one thing I did and it helped me stayed on point and didn't fell off track.

You may be convincing someone to invest in a product of yours, buy a product or you're recommending something. Or even be suggesting a business idea to your boss, college and more or requesting something!

Before having any conversation, brainstorm on what you'll be discussing, know the key points. If you're convincing someone, write out your points and if you're requesting something, know why you're wanting such. If possible draft out your points on a paper or any handy too(s). You shouldn't use the paper when discussing, it will look so unprofessional and robotic.๐Ÿ˜ƒ

What if you don't do this? You might end up being clueless and short of words. You won't get what you're wanting from the conversation or even start taking about things that are somewhat unrelated to the discussion.

Some persons may just turn down your offer or promise to get back which he or she will never do! Some persons might even be straight to tell you they ain't satisfied with your reasons!

2.Before Confident.

One thing I did was to build my confidence, I learnt to be confident in myself and also in what ever I'm suggesting, requesting and more.

So if you're having conversation where you are recommending something or similar, you should be confident and be able to defend your idea, if you're not confident you won't be able to convince anyone either!

You also should be confident in yourself, don't be dull or shy. Express liveliness, if there's anything that will hurt your confidence, fix ASAP! If you're not well dressed, change the clothes. If you haven't shave, do so! The Idea is being confident in yourself.

Don't be scared because you're talking a wealthy and successful personality, be bold and smart!

Also, your confidence should reflect on your conversation, give the person you're talking to the impression that you're fearless and confident. You should do one or all of the following!

• Respond
When you're having conversation, whether interview, business discussion, or related, you should respond where necessary.

Don't only be a listener, contribute to make the conversation brilliant and prove you're confident.

If your idea is being berated or misunderstood, you shouldn't keep quiet, be sure to defend your idea with more and better points.

•Ask Question
These is another way to show you're confident, if any need of asking question arise, don't keep shut! If you don't understand a thing or two, ask questions.

3.Attention

Another thing I did was making sure I paid attention to the conversation and made sure I'm not missing any bit of the conversation.

When you're having conversation, you shouldn't allow anything distract you, don't put your mind elsewhere, be focused. If it worth switching off your cell phone, please do! Make sure you're getting everything bit by bit and keen to the discussion.

Also, you need to show you're attentive and below is some couple of ways to do that.

• Maintain Eye Contact
This is one thing I did to show attentiveness, I must confess it isn't easy to maintain eye contact when discussing, especially when talking to top personalities. But that is something you must learn!

I practiced maintaining eye contacts with my peers and also took it further to top persons. As a teen, back then in the school were I teached, i made sure I was maintaining eye contacts with the pupils and also whenever there was staff meeting, I would always try maintaining eye contact with the proprietor. It wasn't easy as he was already a skilled speaker and could maintain eye contact with anyone but I persisted. I won't say I'm perfect at that now but there's huge improvement. Seriously๐Ÿ˜ƒ

• Nod To Show Attentiveness
Another way I show attention was to nod my head where necessary, I would to nod to show I'm understanding what whosoever I'm talking to is saying.

So you should nod your head though it isn't a must but it worked well with me and could also with you! When you're in agreement, understanding something, or following the conversation you should express it through nodding your head!

4.Be Honest

I won't say I'm honest but I try my best to be honest in any way possible, I try not to be telling lies in order to gain favor.

If you're recommending something, don't lie because you want to get approval, if there's anything faulty or any cons of what you're recommending, say it. Most people will appreciate your honestly rather than your quest to make quick cash or other achievement attached.

If you're being interviewed, answer the questions you're asked honestly, don't claim to be who you're not or claim to offer what you ain't capable of. It pays to be honest!

5.Control Your Words

I have learnt to control what I say, in other words; I think before I speak! Everything isn't meant to be said, so you shouldn't say everything.

There are certain words that is right when you're addressing a fellow peer, but isn't right for formal conversations, so you should mind the kind of words you use. Don't rush to speak, be calm and speak what makes nothing but sense!

Aside that, you should be careful and don't say wrong about someone else or their products or services in order to get yours approve. You get the picture!

So be so careful with your words because you can't reverse it once you've spit it out!

Final Thoughts

Conversation won't always favor you, sometimes you won't get what you're actually wanting, this isn't the end of the road as there's always more rooms for trial.

If you ain't successful, feel free to try again and again. Also don't forget to build confidence and also damn fear like I did.
